Sculpture by the Sea on the clifftops just south of Bondi Beach is Australia's largest annual outdoor sculpture exhibition. It opens this morning .. and on Tuesday  evening earlier this week I shot this panorama  -  of one of the pieces being installed. This structure is a sort of lighthouse, powered by a wind generator -- which is that thing in the sky above the structure. The other little shapes in the sky are radio-controlled hobby gliders.

Yesterday as part of the Kings Cross Arts Festival there was an outdoor poetry reading in Piccolo Place in the Cross. Panorama. Piccolo Place is named after the longtime beatnik-type hangout the Piccolo Bar - picture.  The Piccolo Bar and adjacent shops -- opposite the open space in the panorama -- has become a site of intense developer interest - so the Bar might not be there much longer. Amongst the spectators, Amanda Lennon, Greens Councillor for South Sydney Council.

Mary McKillop was the first Australian to be proposed for sainthood and in the 90s she was beatified by the pope. The museum about her life --  in North Sydney -- had an open day today. Panorama ... all the figures on the ceiling and the walls of the room in the panorama are saints of various special causes.

Another inflatable ... another big thing. Panorama. This is a big red ball, an art installation by American artist Kurt Perschke - which is appearing in unannounced locations round the city for the next few weeks. This was its inaugural appearance - outside the Sydney Town Hall on Tuesday.

A picture named dinoicon.jpg

At Manly Beach yesterday - panorama  A few minutes later there was a torrential storm. The dinosaur inflatable  is a sort of obstacle course/slippery dip -- where one exits between the dino's legs. In a kind of postmodern fairground practice it recycles contemporary popular electronic culture ...reality television ..  "will you be a Jurassic Survivor?"
