Local government in the inner city is in a state of flux (as usual) and it looks like that the City Council will shortly incorporate South Sydney (once again). Last night, in the recently installed council rooms, an extraordinary General Meeting of South Sydney Council was held to pass motions on the developments - panorama

Sydney was visited yesterday by the largest passenger ship -  the "Star Princess" - ever to enter the harbour. Here it is moored at Sydney Cove - panorama - large crowds assembled to gawk at it. It was an odd thing I thought - like a floating apartment block, reminiscent in many ways of the land-bound apartments on the other side of the cove, the East Circular Quay development.

The annual Festival of Mind, Body and Spirit was on at Darling Harbour yesterday - two whole exhibition halls full of psychics, life coaches, masseurs, magnetic blanket salesmen, iridologists. .. and yoga practitioners.  Panorama

I was in Melbourne earlier in the week for a couple of days and did some solid tourist exploring in the city for the first time. Here is a panorama of the main reading room of the State Library of Victoria (their site). Melbourne seems to have quite a number of these spectacular interior spaces -- corresponding perhaps to the circumstance that the weather there is more variable -- to put a neutral word on it. More of these spaces shortly.

Last weekend on Saturday I went to a book launch at St Andrew's College at the University of Sydney. Panorama. The book "Dark Sparklers" is the first extensive treatment of Aboriginal Astronomy and is the result of a collaboration between Bill Yidumduma Harney -- an Aboriginal elder (he is also a painter) -- and anthropologist Hugh Cairns. Here is Bill addressing the audience and here he is talking to my videographer friend Goretti Bello.

Last night at the Opera House - the premiere of the third (and theoretically the last) of the Matrix films - "Matrix Revolutions". Panorama. Keanu was there - pic - and Hugo Weaving and the producer and miscellaneous others. I will have to go see it this week -- even though the second one was such a schmozzle.
