Here is a panorama from the Winter Magic Festival in Katoomba yesterday. The festival with its fantasy costume carnival parade is held each year on the Saturday nearest the winter solstice. The building in background here is the Carrington Hotel -- restored to period glory in very authentic fashion in recent years. Katoomba is in the mountains near Sydney -- it snows there occasionally in winter and yesterday while not quite snow weather was still plenty cold - 6 degrees C.
