A picture named cokeicon.jpg

This large piece of temporary vinyl Coca Cola signage at the top of William Street, Kings Cross abuts - just around the corner on the right - a similarly giant  heritage-listed neon Coke sign. These intrepid abseilers yesterday are cleaning it by swinging backwards and forwards across it as they slowly descend. Annual rental for the signage space is a million dollars ($A)! The building behind is being converted from a hotel into apartments -- from the Millenium Hotel to Zenith Apartments. This type of conversion is typical of the Cross at the moment -- the neighbourhood is transitioning from a bohemian hangout and tourist destination to a somewhat seedy residential precinct.
